"The Sound Scammers Project" (TSSP) were born "unhealthily" in Napoli on 24 November 2018 from an idea of Giulio Castagna and Paolo Malinconico (Mr. Chestnut and Paolo Malich), both guitarists born in Naples ("The land where you don't penare la testa "), as they like to define their hometown.
After more than twenty years away from musical instruments, they decide to start playing together again, as they had done until about twenty years earlier, when they were kids, using the same method: nothing ready, nothing studied, nothing prepackaged; all alone and exclusively improvised on the spot, but played as if they were playing very clear songs.
After putting the instruments back in order, they burrow into the small studio that Giulio has set up over time in his house, attach the guitars, play the drum line that they had previously composed and start playing, as if it were a piece that has always been played. and well known.
What comes out of it excites them, to the point that dear old friends (who live about 1000 km away) ask him to make sure that they too can attend their impromptu performances, despite the distance.
Thus was born the LAIV-OFF project, using the most used social network platform in the world: Facebook (the name LAIV-OFF is deliberately crippled).
TSSP (The Sound Scammers Project) start making little “LAIVs” (as they like to call their performances) in streaming, on Facebook, exclusively for their friends on the “LAIV-OFF” page.
They hide in the "cave" (hereinafter called "Smanie Sonore Record"), decorated and illuminated like a Christmas tree (to the "joy" of Giulio's wife), and give vent to their creativity for an hour and a half , pounding and unleashing in micro virtuosity, hypnotic rhythms and so on and so forth.
They do not miss anything, even playing the keyboard at the same time as the guitar using "a free finger" ...
They then decide to publish what comes out of it, "getting naked", publishing what they get out of their LAIV.
Without qualms or fears.
Their philosophy is to change the concept of music:
“No more pre-packaged music, no more schemes”.
"To play" is the password. the LAIV-OFF project takes off.
A very present sound engineer friend of theirs on the Triestina music scene (F. Z.) defines the project as “A very cool media suicide”.
Giulio and Paolo have roughly a similar artistic heritage:
born in Naples, lovers of music as a means of expression.
In their youth they participate in various musical projects with local and foreign bands.
In his youth, Paolo moved to Los Angeles for a couple of years to deepen his study of the guitar, while Giulio, in addition to playing the guitar, was also fascinated by the world of voice and shortly thereafter he began studying it and subsequently studying it. setting up of a small but well-functioning home studio.
During the performances of their LAIVs, Paolo plays the guitar, and Giulio, instead, decides to throw himself into playing the bass (never played before!), Giving rise to very simple but tasty and powerful sounds and rhythms.
Paolo takes advantage of the bass rhythm to “flit around” with his pindaric flights and his impromptu experiments.
The sounds of the first two LAIVs are based on simple instruments: a drum line (editor's note: in vst. “Virtual” drummer), electric guitar and bass. For the third LAIV they choose to give themselves to experimentation using a lot of effects and creating moments full of sound depth and pathos.
They combine almost hypnotic electronic rhythms with real instruments: the electric guitar and the electric bass. Every now and then they launch into singing experiments with phrasing rich in reverberation and depth, creating particular “post-war”, dreamlike or ethnic atmospheres.

They decide to make themselves known to the general public by publishing extracts of their LAIV on the YouTube platform on the “LAIV-OFF” channel and in digital format on the main world stores. They also have a vinyl version of the “LAIV-OFF vol. 1 ".
Currently also engaged in the international "house-dance" scene with two singles released:
"Feel it" and "Another chance".
The latest release (12/06/2023) is "Never without you" with typically house-dance sounds and decidedly important BPMs. Perfect for a summer DJ set!
“L’intero processo creativo è esso stesso un prodotto”
“The Sound Scammers Project” (TSSP) nascono "malsanamente" a Napoli il 24 novembre 2018 da un’idea di Giulio Castagna e Paolo Malinconico (Mr. Chestnut e Paolo Malich), ambedue chitarristi nati a Napoli (“La terra dove non fai penare la testa”), come amano definire la loro città natia.
Dopo più di vent’anni di lontananza dagli strumenti musicali, decidono di ricominciare a suonare insieme, come avevano fatto fino a circa venti anni prima, quando erano ragazzini, usando lo stesso metodo: nulla di pronto, nulla di studiato, nulla di preconfezionato; tutto solo ed esclusivamente improvvisato sul momento, ma suonato come se stessero suonando brani ben chiari.
Dopo aver rimesso in sesto gli strumenti, si rintanano nel piccolo studietto che Giulio ha allestito nel tempo nella sua casa, attaccano le chitarre, mettono in play la linea di batteria che precedentemente avevano composto e attaccano a suonare, come se fosse un pezzo sempre suonato e ben conosciuto.
Quel che ne viene fuori li entusiasma, fino al punto che dei carissimi amici di vecchissima data (che vivono a circa 1000 km di distanza) gli chiedono di fare in modo che anche loro possano assistere alle loro performance estemporanee, nonostante la lontananza.
Nasce così il progetto LAIV-OFF, utilizzando la piattaforma di social network più usata la mondo: Facebook (il nome LAIV-OFF è volutamente storpiato).
TSSP (The Sound Scammers Project) cominciano a fare dei piccoli “LAIV” (così amano chiamare le loro performances) in streaming, su Facebook, esclusivamente per i loro amici alla pagina “LAIV-OFF”.
Si rintanano nell’ ”antro” (battezzato di seguito “Smanie Sonore Record”), addobbato e illuminato come un albero di natale (per la “gioia” della moglie di Giulio), e danno sfogo alla loro creatività per un’ora e mezza, pestando e scatenandosi in micro virtuosismi, ritmiche ipnotiche e chi più può, più ne metta.
Non si fanno mancare nulla, anche suonare la tastiera contemporaneamente alla chitarra usando "un dito libero”…
Decidono, allora, di pubblicare quel che ne viene fuori, “mettendosi a nudo”, pubblicando ciò che tirano fuori dai loro LAIV.
Senza remore o paure.
La loro filosofia è cambiare il concetto di musica:
“basta musica preconfezionata, basta schemi”.
“Suonare” è la parola d’ordine. il progetto LAIV-OFF decolla.
Un loro amico fonico presentissimo sulla scena musicale Triestina (F. Z.) definisce il progetto “Un fighissimo suicidio mediatico”.
Giulio e Paolo hanno pressappoco un retaggio artistico simile:
nati a Napoli, amanti della musica come mezzo di espressione.
Partecipano, in gioventù a vari progetti musicali con band locali e straniere.
In gioventù, per un paio di anni Paolo si trasferisce a Los Angeles per approfondire lo studio della chitarra, Giulio, invece, oltre a suonare la chitarra, è anche affascinato dal mondo della fonia e da lì a poco ne comincia lo studio e successivamente all'allestimento di un piccolo ma ben funzionante studio casalingo.
Durante le performance dei loro LAIV, Paolo suona la chitarra, e Giulio, invece decide di lanciarsi a suonare il basso (mai suonato prima!), dando origine a sonorità e ritmiche molto semplici ma gustose e potenti.
Paolo approfitta della ritmica del basso per “svolazzare in giro” con i suoi voli pindarici e le sue sperimentazioni estemporanee.
Le sonorità dei primi due LAIV si basano su strumenti semplici: una linea di batteria (N.d.A.: in vst. Batterista “virtuale”), chitarra elettrica e basso. Per il terzo LAIV scelgono di darsi alla sperimentazione utilizzando molta effettistica e creando momenti ricchi di profondità sonora e pathos.
Uniscono ritmiche elettroniche quasi ipnotiche ai strumenti reali: la chitarra elettrica e il basso elettrico. Ogni tanto si lanciano in sperimentazioni canore con fraseggi ricchi di riverbero e profondità creando particolari atmosfere “post belliche”, oniriche, o etniche.
TSSP amano sempre dire la stessa cosa:
“L’intero processo creativo è esso stesso un prodotto”.
Decidono di farsi conoscere al grande pubblico, pubblicando degli estratti deli loro LAIV sulla piattaforma YouTube al canale “LAIV-OFF” e in formato digitale sui principali stores mondiali. In cantiere hanno anche una versione in vinile del “LAIV-OFF vol. 1”.
Attualmente impegnati anche nell'ambito della scena "house-dance" internazionale con tre singoli pubblicati:
"Feel it" e "Another chance".
Ultima pubblicazione (12/06/2023) è "Never without you" con sonorità tipicamente house-dance e dai BPM decisamente importanti. Perfetto per un DJ-set estivo!
